GAIA WINES

A pioneering Greek producer, Gaía operates their Nemea winery, nestled in the rolling cypress and olive covered hills of the Argolid, as well as the converted traditional canava on the eastern shore of Santorini. Gaía Wines has set the parameters for both these iconic regions.

Beginning with Thalassitis in Santorini, this modern, linear and austere approach to Assyrtiko helped the grape to international renown. Experiments with ancient and modern techniques have expanded their range to include traditional Nychteri and Vinsanto styles, as well as wild ferment and orange Assyrtiko.

Their Nemea winery showcases a range of expressions of Agiorgitiko, from rosé styles to long-lived full-bodied wines. Small amounts of Syrah, Roditis and Assyrtiko are also planted, to continue their exploration of the new and traditional, such as the Ritinitis Nobilis retsina.

  • Thalassitis 2021

    The flagship, classic Santorini Assyrtiko that helped define a style and introduce Greek wine to the fine wine world. High in acid and extract, this is a powerful, salty wine that pairs dreamily with seafood of all kinds.

  • Nychteri 2019

    Traditionally a night-time pressing of the better parcels to reduce oxidation, resulting in concentrated high alcohol wine. This modern take blends small amounts of Aidani and Athiri with a range of time and size of oak.

  • Wild Ferment Assyrtiko 2019

    Fruit from older vines sourced solely from Pyrgos undergoes 12 hours of skin contact before undergoing indigenous yeast fermentation in a range of vessels including French and American barriques and acacia barrel.

  • Clay 'Orange' Assyrtiko 2016

    A unique orange wine from Santorini, made with the forgotten techniques of another age. Aged in ceramic with extended skin maceration, this modern orange wine retains much of its traditional character.

  • Vinsanto 2012

    The most ancient of Santorini’s styles, with a tradition reaching back thousands of years. Grapes are sun-dried and pressed to produce concentrated, luscious wine balanced by signature Santorini acidity and minimality.

  • Gaia Estate 2017

    100% Agiorgitiko from top of the steep Southwestern slopes of Koutsi. A benchmark for PDO Nemea, showcasing concentration and richness with greater complexity with development over time.

  • Gaia Agiorgitiko 2019

    A great value wine showing excellent balance and concentration of flavour, a flagship for entry-level Nemea. Black fruits, spice and oak influence are backed by a structure of soft acid, ripe tannins and full body.

  • Gaia 14-18h Agiorgitiko Rosé 2020

    Demonstrating the versatility of Agiorgitiko, this rosé style is a result of a 14 to 18 hour maceration, slightly longer than the average. This produces a complex and rich but refreshing wine which serves a range of food pairings.

  • Gaia 'Monograph' Assyrtiko 2021

    This Peloponnesian expression from calciferous soils proves less aggressive and concentrated than Santorini. However this allows a greater range of floral and fruit aromas, with a characteristic mineral and acid backbone.

  • Gaia 'Ritinitis Nobilis' Retsina

    A small amount of Roditis grown in Nemea is seasoned with a calculated quantity of resin from the Pinus Halepensis variety of pine tree. A modern and reinvented Retsina that is a refreshing wine balanced perfectly between citrus and aromatic pine resin.
